home catch reports gallery flies kyley collie dog items for sale fin and feather previous months september 2018 august 2018 july 2018 june 2018 may 2018 april 2018 march 2018 february 2018 january 2018 december 2017 november 2017 october 2017 kyle 10/09/2018 last week i had two and a half very good days down on the kyle landing eight salmon, i fished tuesday 4th, and landed 3 salmon 11lb.10lb.8lb & a 6lb grilse. over wednesday, & a short three hour stint on thursday i was delighted to land another 4 grilse i also lost four salmon over the period and picked up a couple of nice sea trout. iceland 14/08/2018 i am just back from spending a wonderful weeks fishing in iceland we fished on the stora laxa and then the west ranga. it was all thanks to adam shaw jamie parratt & james appleton metcalfe, and their unbelievable generosity and kindness in laying everything on to make it the most marvellous experience. it started on a high and simply got better we flew out to and back from iceland on a private jet, seamus and shane teague made up the rest of the party, the other integral part of the party was oli. & dagur the two guides who stayed with us on the storalaxa and then came back with us to their home river the west ranga, where a third guide jan joined us. i have a mountain of photos and stories of the trip so this will be added to and up dated ad infinitum we all had great sport and great fun special mention to shane who had not caught a salmon before who caught 3 salmon on his first two days on the stora. my back problem re surfaced and i lost an afternoon and an evenings fishing very very frustrating on a trip of a lifetime, so many memorable moments on the stora one evening hooked a salmon and two grilse in a twenty yard stretch of the magnificent gvendardrattur pool landing one losing one and almost beaching another as jamie ran up to give assistance it slid off the hook almost on the beach. their was always a bit of action going on, as i fished the big nose pool i looked back up to the head of the pool to see jamie playing a grilse. over to the ranga and first morning i hooked and played a cracker in the bottom pool fresh as a daisy it was within seconds of being in the guides net and it threw the hook and was off jan said 90 cnm which would equate to my own estimate of approx 18lbs i proceeded to hook and lose another good one minutes later of 12 to 14lb. the rest of the week we all landed fish and also lost quite a few we did see a really good run of salmon coming into and through the prolific home pool. i had a lovely evening session hooking five in the hellisey pool landing two and losing a good fish of up about 18lbs it had been showing regularly around the submerged rock, adam who was fishing below me on the rangarbakki came up and went in and immediately hooked into a real good fish. the stories and laughs over dinner were memorable, the drinks and jokes on the verandah sometimes at well after 1.00 am was brilliant the anticipation of the coming day over breakfast and what a breakfast and what a beautiful setting looking out over the prolific home pool and the volcanoes beyond. a bit of sport on the kyle 28/07/2018 i had my first trip down to the kyle on week beginning july 16th long after it had started back on june 1st this was my first trip down as my back problem kept me away from giving it a go, after two short sessions in which i lost a couple of grilse and a decent salmon which i was very pleased with. the third session ended up very good i landed 2 small summer salmon & 2 grilse and lost two others one a good double figure fish. a quick trip down the following day and i managed another grilse. all in all very pleased with limited time i had. political correctness gone mad 28/05/2018 just when you think things could not get any worse!!! even more completely bizarre decisions made by politically correct political elite, listen to the whole video as it will probably be blocked. if it happened in russia, china or iran it would be on t v and in newspapers 24 hours a day seven days a week. the issuing of d notices to stop the public knowing what the government are doing does george orwell come to mind ? no matter what your political persuasion every body should be outraged. super week 21springers landed 15/04/2018 week beginning april 9th i have just had some superb early spring fishing across the water on the gledfield beat, i fished with graham grant who is great company we had good fun and great pal callum beattie would fish from time to time. as they say to cut a long story short we landed 21 springers and lost 11 other salmon, the eleven were hooked and were on some of them almost to the net so it could have been a real bonanza super fishing to two rods! we also had numerous pulls the best day was a day of 7 salmon and a day of 6 salmon . we had super water heights due to snow melt coming away the water was running from a high of 1 ft 11 to most days it would start out at around 1ft 9 to 1ft 6 inch saturday started out at 1ft 3 inch the lowest it had been all week. graham landed 7 salmon, 5 of them were caught in the march pool, and 2 in the gledfield pool. callum landed a 2 in the gledfield pool. allan landed 12 salmon, 7 in the bridge pool, 2 in the gledfield pool, 1 in kennel run, 1 in the gledfield run, and 1 in the oystercatcher, graham had the best fish of the week weighing in at 12lbs, the others were 5 at 9lbs.7 at 8lbs. & 8 at 7lbs. captions for photos to follow david theaker rothes beat river spey i have just had e mail from good friend ” have rod will travel ” david theaker who just landed this cracking springer on the rothes beat of the river spey well done david. it is good to see you caught it on a 3/4 inch kyley and yes as you said reminds me of us sitting at the bay window in the manse at amat having a dram and us both tying up some kyley’s before we usually put them to good use. just had e mail update from david “why fish with anything else ” and mike and robbie the two ghillies send their regards. that’s a cracker david well done only a kyley could tempt that one springer from the north esk and three from the gledfield pool 25/03/2018 last week week beginning march 19th. produced three salmon from the gledfield pool two from the gledfield bank by calum beattie at 7lbs & 6lbs. and one from the cornhill bank by allan donaldson at 7lbs that was the total from the beats last week allan donaldson almost added to the total on saturday losing a salmon in the mckenzie stream. i received a quick update from david theaker on his trip north to fish the north esk david’s trip coincided with the heavy snowfalls from the so called beast from the east. david did well to even get to the river but rounded it off with a nice springer well done david, freezing cold lots of snow a roaring fire in the cottage and a fresh springer to celebrate, i bet the whiskey supplies went down quick. first salmon at cornhill beat 19/02/2018 i am really delighted to report that i managed to land a lovely fresh 9 lb salmon in the mckenzie pool on the cornhill beat on monday 19th february at approx 11.30hrs the water level was 1ft 8 inch and rising slowly at first with snow melt. the salmon was very fresh with no sea lice a guesstimate would be that it’s been in the river about a week which is good i quite like the fact the salmon are not sea liced very early in season as they are liable to creep through the beat if the guesstimate was about right the salmon took approx 7 days to travel to the mckenzie pool which is approx 2 miles from the estuary, bearing in mind when the water temperature heats up a salmon running hard straight off the tide could be right through our beat in 45 minutes pretty much walking speed. i managed to slip at the clump pool and went over my welly boots and got soaked almost went home to change i am glad did not and carried on down to the mckenzie pool ! this is the first salmon off the carron, the
